Jo's Story
Jo joined St. Mike’s 15 years ago as a part-time sessional youth worker for just six hours a week — and she has never looked back. Her passion for youth work began from the age of 8, where she accompanied her Mum, a youth worker, to youth work sessions.

Jo’s first paid role was as a graphic designer, and she even ran her own design business, but her desire to work with people never went away. Following a serious illness, she took a part-time role at St. Mike’s, which quickly became the catalyst for her career in youth work.

In 2012, Jo was offered a full-time role through The Rank Foundation Youth and Adult Programme, completing a Level 3 Diploma in Youth & Community Work and Social Pedagogy. She later continued her degree studies, graduating with First Class Honours at a ceremony at Canterbury Cathedral, a moment she describes as one of her proudest achievements.

Over the years, Jo has progressed from sessional worker to Lead Youth Worker, Project Lead, and now Chief Officer, leading our passionate, dedicated team who share her commitment to demonstrating the value of youth work and championing children and young people, ensuring they have as many opportunities as possible, and creating a lasting legacy in the community.

One of the most rewarding parts that Jo has shared about her journey is seeing the young people she once worked with now bringing their own children along, a true reflection of St. Mike’s lasting impact across generations.

What was to be a part time temporary role became a full time vocation. A Youth Worker, something which she feels very honoured to be!
